It is known problem with adobe products to have buggy SVG support. I suggest you trying opensource inkscape to open it in vector and export in any kind of formats.

The workaround with inkscape works perfect - thanks!
Worked perfect with Illustrator CS6 (CS5....)

HowTO:
Inkscape: import your "cloud.svg", export it (for example) as "yourname.eps"
Then open Illustrator: Import eps -> finished!

(Corel direct svg import: Corel (X5) crashed. -> also try via inkscape)

I have downloaded inkscape and I am still not having any luck getting the file to open correctly. Any other suggestions?

@lorileesusi: IMPORT the File into Inkscape, not just OPEN it - that's the trick!
