Carrie Best is a symbol or courage and resilience. I made this for BHM to show everyone that she is more than just a reporter.

    More about Carrie Best:
Carrie Best was an activist who made a big impact in Canada. She was born on March 4, 1903 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Triggered by racism, Carrie Best became a Civil Rights activist. She fought for Black rights. She wanted every person, whether Black or White, to have the same rights.

She was also the co-founder of The Clarion, one of the first newspapers to be owned and published by Black Canadians. She used the newspaper to advocate for Black people’s rights. Carrie Best publicly supported Viola Desmond, and helped her by getting The Clarion to publish her story. Filing a lawsuit against the theater they were discriminated against in, Carrie Best and Viola Desmond worked together to make sure this didn’t happen again.

Sadly, their lawsuit failed. 5 judges declined their appeal, but in 2010, Viola Desmond got a posthumous free pardon, which means that they say that she had never committed an offence. All thanks to her and Carrie Best, racism has reduced!
